Compression stockings

Lighter legs. More energy for your day.

Our legs carry us through everyday life – step by step, mile after mile, often under considerable strain. Good circulation is key to keeping them healthy for a long time. This is exactly where medical compression stockings come in: they support blood flow, can help prevent swelling and accompany the treatment of venous and lymphatic complaints.
Whether as a preventive measure, for venous insufficiency, during pregnancy or for sport – a properly fitted stocking increases well-being and gives your legs a noticeably lighter feeling.

The medicine behind it

How compression works

Medical compression stockings are much more than tight-fitting stockings – they are a targeted therapeutic aid. Their effect comes from a defined pressure gradient: strongest at the ankle and decreasing evenly towards the top. This gradient follows the natural flow of blood in the veins and lymphatic vessels and supports the body exactly where it needs it.

Venous return is supported

Veins carry oxygen-poor blood from the legs back to the heart – against gravity. When you sit or stand for long periods, blood can pool. The pressure of the stocking acts like an external pump: it supports the vein walls, improves drainage and can noticeably relieve a feeling of heaviness, tension or night-time calf cramps.

What is lipoedema?

Lipoedema is a chronic fat distribution disorder that affects almost exclusively women. Typical signs are symmetrical fat deposits on the legs, less often also on the arms. It is often accompanied by a painful feeling of tension, increased sensitivity to pressure and a tendency to bruise. Despite a healthy diet and exercise, the affected area hardly changes. Unlike being overweight, usually only the lower body is affected, while the waist and upper body remain slim. If lipoedema is left untreated, it can progress and affect mobility, self-esteem and quality of life. Early, professional care is therefore important.

THE RIGHT KNIT

Round-knit or flat-knit – what's the difference?

Not all compression stockings are the same. Depending on the condition, body shape and symptoms, round-knit or flat-knit stockings are used. At our pharmacy we professionally measure round-knit compression stockings.

Standard size

Round-knit

Round-knit stockings are the proven option for venous conditions such as varicose veins or after thrombosis. They are elastic, comfortable to wear and precisely measured by us. They are usually prescribed by a doctor twice a year – a stocking is designed to last about 12 months.

Made to measure

Flat-knit

Flat-knit stockings are individually made to measure and are used mainly for lipoedema and lymphoedema. Fitting flat-knit garments requires special additional training – we do not yet offer measuring for flat-knit stockings. Please feel free to ask us, we will advise you on the options.

Everyday life with compression

Compression only works if it is worn regularly. That's why it's worth making it a fixed part of your day. It's best to put the stockings on first thing in the morning after getting up – that's when the effect is greatest. Taking good care of the material (gentle washing, good skin care, regular exercise) extends its lifespan and your well-being. Combined with exercise and a healthy lifestyle, compression becomes effective support for more lightness in everyday life.
Frequently asked questions
Does health insurance pay for compression stockings?
If medically necessary, your doctor can prescribe compression stockings. German statutory health insurance funds generally cover the costs of two pairs per year; a statutory co-payment applies. A corresponding prescription is always required.
How often do I get new stockings?
Round-knit compression stockings are usually prescribed twice a year – i.e. about every six months. Important: a new medical prescription is required each time.
How long does a pair of compression stockings last?
A compression stocking is designed to last about 12 months. With daily wear the compression effect decreases over time – by then at the latest, the stockings should be replaced.
How can I tell that my stockings are no longer working properly?
If the stockings become noticeably stretched, slip down or the pressure decreases, it's usually time for a change. Skin irritation or pressure marks can also indicate fitting problems – please feel free to come in for a check.
